When God Says …
“And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.” (Luke 5:7 KJV).
This is such a profound demonstration of how blessings abound and overflow with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ in our boat of living. In this early hours of the day when the Lord happens to be at the beach of the Lake of Gennesaret, these fishermen were just clearing out after a night of catch-less fishing. Being pressed on by a crowd eager to hear Him speaks, the Lord Jesus climbed on to Simon’s boat to use it as platform to speak. This, unbeknownst to Simon that something extra-ordinary was about to unfold, as he followed through the Lord’s cue after speaking to the crowd. By the Lord’s direction, he moved the boat a bit deeper then dropped the net down in an area not known to be a fishing ground. Now, here we are watching them pulling the net bursting with fishes.
When the Great Provider, the Almighty Creator is welcomed in our domain of living, the resources of heaven are made available to us. Our needs are not merely met. Rather, we experience overflows as this event that just unfolded on this boat of Simon. Overflowing with a large catch, they have to call their partners on other ships to help load their catch. Yet still, they’re overloaded and sinking.
They have exceeding blessings, that we too will experience when we receive the Lord Jesus Christ in our life and allow Him Lordship to guide us where and when to drop our net. That’s stewardship of the resources we’ve been blessed - health, time, material and spiritual things that He entrusts for our stewardship. This, Apostle Paul sums up in his exhortation and prayers: “For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:15-21 NIV).
And I say, AMEN!
