The Gospel of Luke 5:12-13 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.” (Luke 5:12-13 KJV).

This miraculous healing gives us conspicuous powerful revelations. In Israel's history there has never been an Israelite sick with leprosy that was healed, with the exception Miriam the sister of Moses. She was afflicted with leprosy as punishment for speaking against Moses due to envy. She was healed by God's grace after Moses’ intercession with God (Numbers 12:1-13 NIV). There was also Naaman, but he was a Syrian general. He was not an Israelite. He was healed by God's grace through prophet Elisha (2 Kings 5:1-14).

We see in these passages how by the simple act of coming into the presence of the Lord Jesus in the posture of receiving by faith, we can receive what we ask Him. The leper came believing that the Lord Jesus can and will cure him from his disease. He approached the Lord Jesus Christ assured and confident he could have his life back. He came postured fully convinced to receive whatever he will ask from the Lord. By grace, the Lord has so much to give. With a humble heart we come to His presence to receive.

We witness the tenderness of the Lord in these verses. While the man was cured by the authority and power of the Lord’s spoken word, here he experienced the comfort of His touch. This touch is not about healing; healing manifests through His spoken word. Here we watch the restoring touch of grace! The Lord touched the unclean man, cast off from society and his family. Exiled to live outside the camp of the healthy and required to shout 'unclean' when in the presence of people. The Lord let that leper know that he was loved even in his unclean condition. He touched the leper, but He was not defiled by the contagious malady. Rather the defiled was cleaned by the touch of Grace.

The message for us is clear: We come to the Lord knowing we are nothing and He is everything. As we surrender ourselves to Him, we find we are blessed with what we need. As children of God in Christ Jesus, in all circumstances we are assured. It is written, Apostle Paul exhorts: “We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.” (2 Corinthians 6:3-4, 10 NIV).

And I say, AMEN!
