When God Says …
“And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.” (Luke 5:16 KJV).
The Lord Jesus Christ shows us a habit we must also adopt in our daily living. Being children of the Most High God, born again in Spirit by faith in Christ Jesus our Lord, while doing our mission here on earth, this passage is giving us the message to have regular appointment with our Heavenly Father. It is easy for us to be caught up with the hustle and bustle of daily physical living. It can be easy for us to become distracted, overwhelmed and burned out. We need refreshing in our inner being by regular communing with our Father, as the Lord Jesus formed the habit of doing.
Here, in this passage, the Lord shows us His need of taking time to withdraw from the crowds, the noise, and the demands of ministry in order to find a quiet place for reflection and prayer with His Father and our Father. This example is very relevant for us especially in this hi-tech environment we are in, wherein we’re given the false impression it makes our life easier. But as we have realized, rather made it complicated. It makes life physically and spiritually taxing. Gadgetry steals family closeness and togetherness. We see family dinners and gatherings with everyone honed in on their gadgets. Gone are the fun of close conversations of the past. Gatherings in family rooms we see each one focused on their smart phones in silence. Lost are the chatters and the laughters. So near, yet so far! Yes, living in this cyberspace era can be hectic and demanding, especially for the unsavvy generation. Unguarded, we can easily lose track, most especially in our spiritual connection with God.
We must find a wilderness, a place of solitude with our heavenly Father, to have our conversations and prayers active. This keeps us connected with Him for spiritual renewal and guidance, stay attuned with our heavenly calling and reminded how to live while still on this physical assignment, as the Lord Jesus showed us. Lest we become captive of this world we are passing through and lost sight of what matters most. We must press on! It is fitting for us to have quiet moments with our Father and Lord, reflect and be refreshed on these words of testimony of Apostle Paul. It is written: “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
