“At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.” (Luke 4:40 NIV).
When sun goes down upon people, physical troubles set upon their being. The Pharaoh of Egypt asked Jacob of his age. “And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.”” (Genesis 47:9 NIV). Yes, years of trodding on this world could be difficult, as Jacob’s was. "Sunset" described in this passage maybe the literal onset of night time of that Sabbath day when the Lord Jesus Christ administered healing. And, this could be a metaphor too of our journey on this physical realm.
As we clock time and mileage on this journey of living in this finite element of life, wear and tear are inevitable. Navigating in a turbulent world causes damage upon the hull of our physical body. Brought about by the corrosion of the curse of sin, the human body is susceptible to various kinds of sickness. Energy ebbs and drains at every passing day exposed to the polluted nature of the earth. Illness is a common malady of a physically driven human anatomy. We can’t rely solely on the carnal element of our living, we need spiritual touch of the heavenly realm to sustain us in our navigation through this physical dimension of living. We need the touch of God to lay hands on us through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Yes, the Lord Jesus lays His hands on each one and He healed them. We ALL need His touch! Especially those who are blinded from seeing who the Lord Jesus is, like those blind men who happen to be in the Lord’s proximity. As well as those who happen to stumble into this reflection blogs, you too are in the Lord’s proximity. Just believe! Hence, for you and for all of us, we are prompted as it is written: “And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.” And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.” But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.” (Matthew 9:27-31 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
