The Gospel of Luke 5:1-3 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, and saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.” (Luke 5:1-3 KJV).

The scene is a crowd of people pressing on the Lord Jesus Christ to hear God’s Word. It is on the shores of the "lake of Gennesaret," also called Lake Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee. The Lord Jesus is surrounded by a crowd. He takes distance from the throng by climbing in Simon's boat requesting him to move a bit from the shore. Simon is one of those fishermen who just returned from fishing and washing their nets. This demonstrates that there is hunger in the hearts of people for an authentic message from God. Even in a skeptical and at times cynical culture like they have in a religious and materialistic Jewish society. It is reflective of the present society we are in where many (knowingly and unknowingly) hunger to hear truths from God but are drawn and held captive by the half-truths of religion and humanistic deception of influencers in the material world.

The Lord Jesus settled on the boat and taught the crowd from there. This is such a very reassuring message for all to reflect on. The Lord is drawing to remind us of the ship pointing to Noah’s ark during the flood, that foreshadows our salvation in Christ Jesus. As long as we are in the Ark of the Lord, we are save from the flood water. From the boat, which is the Ark, the promise of life is released to us all from the mouth of the Savior who was with Noah to save his family and to them standing on the shore of Gennesaret and to us now reflecting on these words of life.

Drawing and pointing to the Ark during the flood, the Lord is reminding to take His warning solemnly. Take lessons from people’s attitudes during the time of Noah. We must listen, take heed, be sober, watchful and climb in the boat. “For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.” (Matthew 24:37-39 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
