The Gospel of Luke 4:35-36 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.”(Luke 4:35-36 KJV).

The scene is a synagogue with a crowd of people in their Sabbath gathering and the Lord Jesus in the midst of His usual teaching to the people was interrupted. Among the crowd, the Lord encounters a demon-possessed man who cried out loud to reveal the demon within him. Instantly, the Lord commands the spirit to come out of the man, and it does so, without harming the man. This encounter between the Lord and the demon possessed man put to light the ongoing battle between good and evil, God and the devil.

These passages display the unique authority and power that our Lord Jesus holds, being the Son of God who steps down from heaven. This underscores His divine nature and His mission to bring about the kingdom of God on earth. Commanding the demon out of the man displays His power to liberate and restore those who are held captive to sin and demonic influence. He brings freedom and healing to humanity who are wise to receive Him and His message of grace and truth (John 1:17).

The people who were accustomed to hearing the teachings of the religious scribes and Pharisees were amazed with the message of our Lord Jesus Christ. His teachings were not only radically different. He taught it with unparalleled authority that set Him apart from everyone else. His spoken words has the power to set people free, as was seen with the man liberated from the demon that possessed him. Being the person of grace and truth, our Lord Jesus Christ assures us in one of His teachings: “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”” (John 8:31-32 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
