“Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” (Luke 5:4-5 KJV).
Here we have a seasoned professional fisherman being told by a man trained as a carpenter how to fish. So, when the Lord Jesus told Simon to drop the fish net in a certain place and at a certain time that he "knew" were wrong from all of his experience, he must have had to swallow hard his pride and earned experience to follow. But, he did listen to humility and did it. Simon’s action to follow basically says, if YOU SAY SO, then I’ll do it!
What an example for us to emulate! However, in this physical realm, if we be honest, there are instances when what the word of God tells us to do seems at best counter-intuitive and outright crazy. That’s the test of faith in God to rest in His grace. When our carnal being draw us away from the direction of His words, we resist by faith to spiritually yield to His living Word. Our flesh leans towards destruction, we must give our spirit the power to choose the spiritual way to blessings and life in grace by responding to His Word. We must therefore go with the Word of God, not our instinct!
Let’s have that attitude of submission to say: Lord if You say so, here I am! We have this reassuring promise as we totally submit to the Lord’s Words. It is written, God says: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:8-11 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
