The Gospel of John 20:16-17 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” (John 20:16-17 KJV).

Mary Magdalene stooped and peered inside the tomb from the entrance with the massive stone cover rolled away. She saw two angels sitting at both ends of the rock bed where the Lord was laid. They asked ‘woman, why are you crying?’ To which she responded with the thought that the Lord’s body was moved somewhere else: “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.” Unbeknownst to her, the risen Lord Jesus Christ was standing behind her!

When the Lord called her by name, recognizing His voice she turned exclaiming in Aramaic "Rabboni" or "Master" in English and moved to hug Him (John 20:16). The Lord cautioned her not to cling to Him, for now, as He still has to ascend to the Father and our Father in His glorified body. He instructed her to tell this to His brethren, as well. This is such a very touching display of affection. With our faith in Him, totally surrendered to His love, this tells us that not only for Mary, but for you and I, as well, He calls us by name (Isaiah 43:1).

Recognizing the Lord’s voice is our litmus test of who we are in our relationship with Him. We will know that we are His sheep and He is our Shepherd. To those of us who truly receive Him as our Savior and are born again by faith; not held captive by religion with its religious mambo jumbo, He proclaimed this truth: “my sheep listens to my voice.” It is written: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”” (John 10:27-30 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
