“Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.” (John 20:8 KJV).
Still referring to himself in the third person, Apostle John saw and believed! Yes, He finally entered the sepulcher and saw closely the evidence that it was deliberately placed where it was. The mere fact that the cloth was there, purposely laid by itself, was proof enough that it was put there as a sign. For Apostle John, seeing it neatly folded, immediately tells him that it was the Lord Jesus Christ. He is alive!
Looking at this piece of evidence gives John a jolt of realization. The predictions that the Lord Jesus shared with them, as recorded by Mark, Luke and himself, are now shaping to fulfillment. In one occasion, while they were in Galilee with the Lord Jesus, it is written: “because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.”” (Mark 9:31 NIV).
In another occasion, while they were in a village around the border of Galilee and Samaria, Luke recorded - “Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus said, “Listen, we’re going up to Jerusalem, where all the predictions of the prophets concerning the Son of Man will come true. He will be handed over to the Romans, and he will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit upon. They will flog him with a whip and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again.”” (Luke 18:31-33 NLT).
Now, in this moment of truth in the empty tomb, Apostle John seeing the evidence realized. And we too, being children of the Most High God in Christ Jesus, must realize to be deeply rooted in faith. This is it, what the Lord Jesus meant that he - John, himself recorded while they were in Jerusalem. When the Jewish leaders demanded for a sign. “Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” (John 2:19 KJV).
And I say, AMEN!
