“And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.” (Luke 7:40-43 KJV).
In these passages the Omniscient Lord Jesus Christ responds to His host - Simon the Pharisee’s unspoken thoughts of the scene that he’s witnessing unfolded between Him and the city woman. He said to Simon that He has something to tell him, to which Simon the Pharisee says yes Master. The Lord tells him of a parable about a moneylender and two debtors to explain why a sinful woman, who had been forgiven has lavished Him with such display of gratitude and love.
The Lord Jesus reveals that the person who recognizes being deep in debt and acknowledges forgiveness of such great debt will love more. Thus, we can see that the sinful woman's great love and extravagant expression of gratitude to the Lord Jesus Christ, contrasted with Simon's lack of hospitality. This indicates her cognizance of the extent of forgiveness for her sins. The parable shows, those who recognize the enormity of their spiritual debt and receive God's forgiveness by grace will respond with immense gratitude and love.
This doesn’t affirm Simon’s thoughts that this woman is the only sinner in his house in the presence of the Lord. This just reveal that this woman is the only one who is honest enough to acknowledge that she is a sinner and that she needs forgiveness from the enormity of her sin. She came, and she humbled before the presence of the Lord and grateful as she receives forgiveness.
Everyone who comes in the presence of the Lord does receive forgiveness! That’s including you and I, as we turn around and approach the Lord’s holy throne of grace. He forgives and be sent again to take us to be with Him. It is written: “But God was fulfilling what all the prophets had foretold about the Messiah—that he must suffer these things. Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.” (Acts of the Apostles 3:18-20 NLT). This, the Lord Jesus attest in His Words. It is written: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." (John 14:3 ESV).
