When God Says …
“And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.” (Luke 8:9-10 KJV).
In these passages the Lord Jesus responds to the disciples' clarifying query with two-pronged revelations. Parables are meant both to hide and expose! God conceals things that are heavenly to the worldly “wise and prudent”, who are unwilling to accept Godly wisdom because they trust in their own intellect. But to the seeking "babes" and the humble who approach God with a simple and trusting heart, eager to abide and follow, are given plainly to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God (Matthew 11:25).
The Lord Jesus explains to the disciples that He uses parables to conceal spiritual truths to those who come arrogantly. Those who are open and receptive to the message will be able to see and understand plainly the deeper meaning behind the parables. However, those who are closed-minds and off-hearts to the message will miss to grasp the spiritual truths contained within the parables. For those who have no intent to listen, no intent to believe and no intent to abide, the Gospel of the grace of God is hidden so that they cannot see the glory of Christ Jesus.
Parables are the Lord’s keys to open the hearts of humanity for grace. For the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart of those who are perishing. It all hinges on the condition of the heart. One has to have the desire of the heart to have a mind open to the gospel of the glory of Christ Jesus. The scriptures say: “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
