“No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.” (Luke 8:16 KJV).
The Lord Jesus continues His explanation of the importance of God’s holy and written Words, by introducing another metaphor using a candle light analogy. This is giving us a cue that God's message, once received, is not meant to be hidden but should be openly proclaimed and allowed to illuminate the lives of others. This emphasizes that what is hidden will be revealed, urging believers to not stifle the truth of the Gospel but to share it so it can be seen and made available to many if not by all, which is God’s plan for all to be saved.
Like it or not, the moment one lights a candle many will benefit the visibility around the lighted space. There’s no more fear to stumble or bump on something harmful you wouldn’t see. There’s no more groping on your way as you could see clearly what’s in your way. The Lord is stirring us that the light we need is His Words, which the candle light represents. We are to get hold of His Words to give light to our space of living. When our lamp is lighted by His Words, people from afar would see the light. We are therefore nudged by this passage to share this light. Put it on a lamp stand so many can share to benefit the light. That is the essence of this reflection blog, to share the light of God's holy and written Words in its pure state without the defilement by doctrines of religion.
So, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit we are urged to place this light which is the Lord’s Words on the lamp stand of how we live in the grace of God by faith in Christ Jesus. This blog is the lamp stand God provided as the tool, so many who come across this site on the cyberspace are challenged to come and reflect on the Word of truth to be renewed by it. We have the assurance that when our mind is exposed to the light of God’s Words, we are transformed by the renewing of our mind. It is written in Apostle Paul’s epistle, Scriptures exhort: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:1-2 NIV).
And I say, AMEN!
