When God Says …
“And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.” (Luke 8:45-46 KJV).
These passages give us an amazing scenario. The Lord Jesus Christ who is God Omniscient is asking "who touched me?" God does not ask question to know. He knows all things and everything. He knows the number of hairs you and I have. He knows the contents of our hearts and our thoughts (Psalm 139:2), as He responds to the unspoken questions that the Pharisees think. However, He also limited His divine attributes to physically live a fully human life (Philippians 2:7). With all those that press and surround the Lord denying, Peter and others who are with Him explained to Him that they’re amidst a throng of people bumping with each other. But, of course, not all really denied. The woman, who comes with a mission to be healed, was just silent in a moment’s stun. And the Lord knows. The Lord’s question is not to know, but aimed to expose the matter of faith.
The Lord Jesus is setting up the stage to make this interruption, on His way to heal a twelve year old girl, a lesson of the power of faith. We are given the knowledge that when we come to touch Him in faith, His power is released to touch us. And, the Lord Jesus wants this knowledge to be revealed in the midst of the crowd that follows Him. Does He know who touch Him in His nature as man? Maybe not. We could not know. But, He knows that power was drawn out from Him. His purpose to ask: who, is to draw attention to the person, who touched Him in faith. Faith is the essence for this woman's healing. In one of His teaching interaction with the disciples, the Lord Jesus said: “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith”” (Matthew 21:22 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
