The Gospel of Luke 8:13 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.” (Luke 8:13 KJV).

This passage describes the analogy of a heart that receives the Word of God with joy but lacks deep spiritual roots, leading to a belief that is short-lived and gives up during times of testing or trial. This refers to people who have superficial understanding or commitment to the message of our Lord Jesus Christ. When life's challenges arise, their faith withers, much like a plant unable to survive on shallow, rocky ground. They are those who initially are on fire about the gospel message and enthusiastically accept it. But then, with only rock the roots to hold on to, it wilts when heat comes.

We must remember always that God is the Sower of the seeds which are His Words. Every time when His Words are shared and spoken and we hear it by chance or by intention to seek it, in whatever ways we encounter it - like these reflections we have, it is God the Sower scattering His seeds. Let’s make sure the soil of our heart is tilled and made right for the seeds. We can work on it to clear the rock off to have the good kind of soil softened for the seed, as this verse analogy reveals. We can discern it by the knowledge of this story. Is your soil rocky? It's time to plough and loosen it and rake off the rocks. With the rocks uncleared the seed of the word could not build roots to thrive and grow. When temptation comes, and it will as we are in the world full of it, it falls away.

Let us therefore take and learn from the farmer. As we prepare the soil of our heart ready for the seed of the Word by seeking God and His Kingdom, when the Sower comes to scatter, the soil (our heart) is set and we will have a harvest as we rest and wait for our heart to do its process, like a farmer does. Scriptures say: “And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”” (Mark 4:26-29 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
