“Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.” (Luke 8:22-23 KJV).
This is very much like our boat of life. Starting the day in a smooth sail and then all of a sudden storms whip into our sail like a frenzy, leaving us in quandary like the disciples, in the threat of a great danger. Yes, this incident is a picture of our navigation through life. When we receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, He is with us in our boat of life. He promised that we will go to the other side together. Yes, we navigate across the lake of this physical realm of living in this world of changing weather pattern. One moment it is fine and sunny. Then in a sudden shift, clouds form and come with rain and squall. We go through challenges of living, tragedy and catastrophe - like the earthquake that just shake the Philippines and still continuing in this moment of writing. But God promised: "I am with you always" (Matthew 28:20). He is in the boat with us. His rod and His staff, they comfort us (Psalms 23:4). We are in the world of many curses of sin that Adam did. Storms come and waves shake our boat. But, we have the Lord’s assurance - "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). Yes, He is always with us in the journey.
In the midst of the storms, we must not neglect that the Lord is in our boat! We must not be alarmed like the disciples were. We must rest in the comfort of His presence! The author of life is resting in our boat, and He promised “Let us go over unto the other side of the lake.” And, we will! He is a promise keeper. He fulfills His promise. And, we have the affirming declaration of His words, as it is written: “O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O Lord, with your faithfulness all around you? You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them.” (Psalm 89:8-9 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
