When God Says …
“They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed. Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear; and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.” (Luke 8:36-37 KJV).
Here in these passages we are made aware that the swine herders who witnessed how the demon possessed man was healed told the multitude that gathered what they saw. How exactly the herders relate what happened, Luke did not reveal it to be known. But, we can assume it must have been in a scary way as they all reacted with fear devoid of realization that the burden of a possessed man in their country is now cured. Or perhaps, the people of this country valued their livestock more than one of their own.
The way this whole incident unfolds is so incomprehensible and incredible. When the Lord Jesus and His disciples were sailing on their way here, they were shaken by a storm which needed the Lord’s intervention to calm it. Then, as they landed, they were greeted by a demon possessed man in a country with a name that means fortified or walled and to drive out. When the sick citizen of their city was healed, they feared and show ungratefulness. They manifest the attitude of being possessed by what they possess. These people's attitude is the Lord’s illustration for us to reflect on, that He came to the world that He loves to save it, healed the sick, but was instead rejected.
We must therefore learn from this incident and be reminded of Apostle Peter’s declaration to the Pharisees and priests who crucified the Lord Jesus Christ. It is written, he proclaimed: “This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”” (Acts 4:11-12 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
