When God Says …
“And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.” (Luke 8:43-44 KJV).
These passages describe the desperate effort of the woman with the issue of bleeding to be healed. The time and resources she had already spent with doctors were too much. But they all failed to heal her. Hence, running out of options, here she managed to sneak in the proximity with the Lord Jesus among the crowd. As soon as she touches the Lord Jesus, her bleeding stops and she knows she’s been healed. Instantly, of what doctors couldn’t heal for twelve years, by her touch of the hem of the Lord's garment does what the doctors had failed.
This affirms the power of Christ Jesus our Lord, and it also demonstrates an important point about the Lord Jesus and the Law. In Leviticus 15:31 God says, “You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling place, which is among them.” In the Old Covenant of the law, by the religious observance of the Jews, the temple was where God dwelt among them and must not be defiled by an unclean person like this woman. According to the law this woman is not supposed to be in the midst of the crowd of Israelites, let alone touch an Israelite and be contaminated by her uncleanness. But in the New Covenant of grace, God dwelt among the people in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:14). The Lord dwells in us in the Spirit. Through the Lord Jesus Christ, the penalties of the Law are reversed, and the contamination of this world had no effect on Christ Jesus. The woman did not make the Lord Jesus unclean. The Lord Jesus made the unclean woman clean!
We too, as we rest in His grace by faith, by His Words we are cleansed from all sorts of uncleanness. We must, therefore, remain immerse in His holy and written Words. The Lord Jesus declares, as it is written: “Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you” (John 15:3 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
